Bachelor in Fashion Design

COURSE OVERVIEW

Course Duration - 3 Years

A fashion designer deals with the conception and design of a fashion item by translating a stylistic intuition into an aesthetic solution. They are able to interpret needs, expectation and lifestyle of various social groups and fashion market trends in order to identify new stylistic ideas and design products that can be sold on the market. They create sketches, drawings, elaborates and creates the models, in collaboration with the model marker – both using traditional and dedicated software.
The graduates in fashion design can work as an employee, in the fashion sector, and as owners of their own brand or as a freelancer in more or less exclusive collaborations with companies or studios of consulting.

COURSE CURRICULUM

Year 1 - Certificate Program EQF 4

Fashion Designing

This module provides creative, strategic and practical skills to guide, equip and prepare the student for a career in fashion designing for a brand or to establish their own business, as well as preparing them for opportunities in more specialised fashion designing areas like menswear or womenswear. In this unit, students will develop their own creative vision and apply technical knowledge and practical skills to get designs based on their own thinking. This also involves studying past and current trends in fashion design and getting a grasp of different materials and production techniques.

Fashion Accessories

This unit prepares the student for a fruitful, profitable and successful career as a product designer and developer in the exciting field of fashion accessories. It covers the process of selecting which accessory to use and stock which styles and products to highlight each season.

Fabric Studies

This subject examines everything that has to do with choosing the right fabrics in fashion designing, the spectrum of colours, designs, patterns and so on. Fabric studies is an important subject for students who would like to gain full knowledge and/or pursue a diploma in fashion designing. There are different things to learn under this course, such as selecting the right patterns and types of fabrics.

Surface Orientation

This module is necessary to develop students' skills in various types of embroidery stitches and how to use them effectively in designing garments along with the significance. This unit will also cover the various types of surface ornamentation through which the student can create miraculous works of art: applique, embellishment, phulkari and so on.

Softwares

With the explosive growth of technology largely and rapidly transforming the process of design, this course is structured to enable students to showcase their works in various perspectives and gives a technological approach and view of fashion designing. This course provides students with an opportunity to comprehend the importance of merging technology with creativity relating to fashion designing to help maximise  quality output.

Creativity and Innovation

This unit is focused on creativity and innovation in fashion design. The aim of this subject is to analyse creativity and innovation activities amongst fashion designers, discuss the development of fashion design and the determinants when it comes to creativity and innovation. It also cover some part of history of fashion design and how different factors had an impact on the fashion industry over the years.

Year 2 - Diploma Program EQF 5

History

This course reflects on the evolution of fashion designing into a full-fledged industry. It develops the student's understanding of the changing significance of what we wear, from the late eighteenth century to the present day. From identifying ancient designers to their iconic designs and influence on the fashion industry today, it also helps recognise how moments in history continue to have an impact directly and indirectly on the world of fashion.

Fashion Design II

As a continuation, this more advanced unit will focus on expanding and refining the student's fundamental skills and help them develop a personal design practice. It will also enhance the fabric development skills pattern cutting and manufacturing skills. This unit will deliver the student a deeper insight on fashion designing.

Fashion Illustration

This module deals with the basic transmission of ideas into creative designs through diagrams and drawings. It will be discussed the critical role that visual ways of explaining different design ideas play in fashion designing and the whole industry.

Communication Skills II

This module covers how and why great communication is an important factor in fashion design. In the broad domain of fashion designing, communication is an important discipline that works on human tendencies and affinities. It’s about understanding mindsets and ideas exchanges to effect concept creation, implementation, product development and sellout. Information and ideas get passed across different roles and levels in fashion design.

Year 3 - European Bachelor Program EQF 6

Design Collection

This module is essential to acquire the competences needed to create a good and marketable collection thanks to runway shows participation, trends knowledge and consumer demands awareness. This unit will grant students knowledge regarding each step of the process of the designing of a collection, from size specifications to overseeing the samples, till the final materialisation of a complete and perfect look. 

Boutique Management

The unit of boutique management tackles the fundamentals of fashion designing. It helps aspiring boutique manager acquire the skills needed to handle their business adequately and equips them with the necessary knowledge needed to run a botique. It is designed to explain the thought process that goes into designing creative and innovative fashion pieces, as well as enhancing the skills required to market and promote your brand/boutique.

Fashion Marketing Management

This course provides specialised preparation for a career in the commercial area of the fashion industry. This course will help the students analyse the link between brand, products and the role that marketing and communication play within the fashion industry, giving a thorough look at positioning and target audience theories and analysing different case studies of strategies adopted by various brands.
