Job Placement & Internship Assistance

Internship may start as early as the beginning of the third nine-week grading period or when an opportunity becomes available and the student meets all eligibility requirements. Because internship is a privilege and not a right; each internship application will be individually evaluated.

The internship position must provide a student a minimum of 15 hours of supervised on-the-job-training per week. The job must be directly related to the career and technical training program in which the student is enrolled.

Some important tips for the good career achievement in Italy unveiled for you by our internal HR trainer
Mr. Flavio Nigro who is managing preparation for career applicants of IAN.

Maintain an Honor Code

Represents the set of rules of conduct to follow in case of application and participation in the selection processes.

“Maintaining an appropriate conduct on the occasion of the various opportunities in which the world of work is called upon to confront is of fundamental importance to build an effective personal reputation in the professional field”

Compliance with the rules of conduct set out below also allows you to avoid behaviors and attitudes that could damage the image of the IAN Academy towards companies, institutions and other parties involved.

Arrive informed & be punctual

“The piece of advice I feel to give is to find out about the company or organization that offers the job, finding out what they do, what services or products they offer, the company structure, etc. You will need this information during the interview to show interest in their business”

“Never be late at a job interview, punctuality is always appreciated. So leave early and take half an hour to spare, in case of unforeseen events you can still arrive on time. If you are well ahead, take a stroll around the neighborhood or read a newspaper. It is not good to arrive late, nor is it good to show up half an hour before”.

Italian Salutation Way

“Either woman or man, the handshake is a business card, it must be vigorous but you must also make sure that the hand is not sweaty.
Immediately be smiling, polite, helpful and courteous. Look who’s talking to you in the eyes”.

Arrive Prepared for Questions

“On the most common questions that are asked during a job interview you need to be prepared already. For example, you need to know how to tell your professional experiences by enhancing the strengths of your path. Those with no experience will be able to talk more about their training, the positive aspects of their personality and underline their willingness to learn. Classic questions are: what are your professional goals? Why do you feel like the right person for this job? What are its strengths and weaknesses? To find out how best to answer, I recommend following my class”.

Listen to what the recruiters say

“The piece of advice I feel to give is to find out about the company or organization that offers the job, finding out what they do, what services or products they offer, the company structure, etc. You will need this information during the interview to show interest in their business”.

Never speak ill of your last employer

“Never speak ill of your previous jobs or your managers, you will not make a good impression. You can say that you were not satisfied with the missed opportunities for growth but avoid going into the details of discussions or problems you had with colleagues or bosses. Your interlocutors may think that you are unable to relate to collaborators or that you have an aggressive character”.

Be positive

“Optimism always helps! The ability to put everything in the positive is most required by employers. Do not talk about your negative sides but only about your strengths, your abilities and the best aspects of your character (eg. precision, flexibility, the ability to work in a team). Show interest and enthusiasm. In case you are asked to list your faults, you can in depth the topic during our class….”.

Be clear and consistent

“If you want to make a good impression, you must answer in a clear and simple way, without too many words and above all without contradictions. During a selection several questions can be asked to investigate the same aspect, so you must be consistent, not contradict what has already been said and what is written in the CV. Lying doesn’t help”.

Become a seller

“The interview is a moment in which you have to become a “seller” of yourself. Not only do you need to highlight all the positive aspects of your character and enhance your experiences, skills and training, but again you need to be able to convince recruiters that you are the best person to fill that job, as a good salesperson would! Finally, remember that a salesperson never talks about money at the first meeting, rather ask for information on the type of contract and let the recruiters expose themselves”.

Get dressed for the Occasion

“The right clothing depends on the level of formality of the company and the position for which you are applying. What clothing do you expect your recruiters to have? This question always helps, try to dress like your interlocutors. In Italian business environments and large companies, it is better to show up with a suit for men and a suit for women. In smaller realities and more informal environments, you can opt for a more casual but still sober and refined style. Remember to always carry a copy of your curriculum vitae with you and turn off your mobile phone”.

Maintain your Linkedin and Facebook account always sober and update

“Analytic data from the last five years shows that even 71.42% of human resources experts use the internet to search for information on candidates, while only 28.58% do not use the web. The social networks most used by companies for these purposes are LinkedIn with 65.60% and Facebook with 21.50%. Recruiters consider it particularly useful to do research on social networks, especially with regard to managerial profiles (40.37%) and middle managers (24.22%)”.
